“Swept” “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and the actors of the film – “Navalny” Best Documentary – Guillermo del Toro’s “Pinocchio” won the Oscar for Best Animated Film
In the early hours of Monday (Greek time) at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, the glamorous ceremony of awarding the Oscars 2023 took place, with the absolute winner (expected) being the film “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and its actors.
The unconventional comedy triumphed at the award ceremony with 7 statuettes and secured the biggest prizes. Except Oscar for Best Picturethe two directors of the film, Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan secured the coveted prize Oscar for directing.
The “Daniels” thanked their mothers and the film’s producers while receiving their award. The other contenders were Steven Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”), Todd Field (“Tar”), Martin McDonough (“The Spirits of Inicerin”) and Ruben Estlund (“The Triangle of Sorrow”).
The protagonist Michelle Yeo – 60 years old, from Malaysia – received the award First female role for her performance in the unconventional comedy.

It’s proof that you can dream big and that dreams can come true,” said Mrs. Yeo, receiving the award. “And ladies, don’t ever let anyone tell you that you’re past your prime,” she added.
The other contenders for the award were Cate Blanchett (“Tar”), Ana de Armas (“Blonde”), Andrea Riseborough (“Leslie”) and Michelle Williams (“The Fabelmans”).
Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor award for his performance in the film “The Whale”
Canadian-American actor Brendan Fraser, 54, received the award for best actor for his portrayal of Charlie, the obese, reclusive English teacher in the film “The Whale.”

The former action star of the 1990s, best known for the “Mummy” film series, who experienced many health problems, losses, and was accused of sexual assault, made a spectacular comeback, taking home one of the most coveted Academy Awards.
The other nominees were Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Colin Farrell (“The Spirits of Inicerin”), Paul Meskal (“Aftersun”), and Bill Nye (“I Feel Alive”).

She beat out competition from Angela Bassett (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”), Kerry Condon (“The Spirits of Inisherin”) Hong Chow (“The Whale”) and Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everything”).
Best Actor Award to Ke Hui Kwan for “Everything Everything”
Ke Hui Quan, an American actor of Vietnamese origin, received an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as a slightly clumsy husband with unexpected abilities in the unconventional comedy “Everything”.
“My mother is 84 years old. He sees (the ceremony) at home. Mom, I won an Oscar!” said the actor, who made his debut at the age of 12, in the movie “Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Lost Treasure” (1984), in tears.
“No Younger Than the Western Front” Best Foreign Film
The German-language screen adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s anti-war novel “No Younger Than the Western Front,” a shocking depiction of the horrors of World War I, won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Produced by Netflix, the feature film is the third adaptation of the masterpiece of world literature to the big screen, but the first in Goethe’s language, the one in which its creator wrote it. It was competing with the films “Argentina 1985”, “Close”, “EO” and “The Quiet Girl”.
Best Documentary “Navalni”
The film Navalny, about the poisoning of the Russian dissident and his imprisonment after his 2021 return to Moscow, won the Oscar for best documentary.
On stage with Canadian director Daniel Roher, Yulia Navalnaya, wife of 46-year-old Alexei Navalny, complained that “my husband is in prison because he told the truth (…) because he defended democracy,” adding “Alexei, I dream of day when you will regain your freedom, when our country will regain its freedom. Stay strong my love.”
The CNN Films/HBO Max film was up against “All that breathes,” “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,” “Fire of love” and “A House Made of Splinters.”
Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’ Wins Oscar for Best Animated Feature
Guillermo del Toro’s film Pinocchio, a dark version of the famous children’s book set in Italy in the 1930s, won the Oscar for best animated film.
“Animation is cinema,” and animation, or “animation” in the terminology of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is “ready to move to the next stage. We are all ready. Help us too, please,” said the Mexican director, accepting the statuette.
