The lives of child stars are the subject of the documentary in which the American actress and singer will make her directorial debut, Demi Lovato.

The documentary with a working title “Child Star” directed by Demi Lovato and Nicola Mars will “examine the ups and downs of growing up in the spotlight through the eyes of some of the most famous former child stars of global fame, including Demi Lovato.”

The film will explore “how children become entertainment stars at a young age and how the road to fame, fortune and power affects their future.”

Lovato will also convey her own experiences as a young actress who rose to fame through her participation in Disney Channel movies and series.

“There is no better subject for my directorial debut than this story, which I know well,” said Lovato. “Our documentary highlights important messages about how to grow up with the spotlight on us, learn to protect our boundaries and become active supporters of our destiny,” he noted.

Demi Lovato has been critical of her time working at Disney Channel, telling Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast: “There was this extreme workload that I think put a lot of pressure on us and so some of us resorted to… I personally resorted to ‘if I’m going to work like an adult, I’m going to party like an adult’. And that, at 16-17, wasn’t healthy at all.”
