Actress Gwyneth Paltrow will go on trial this week in a case involving a skiing accident in 2016 in the state of Utah, United States. In 2019, retired optometrist Terry Sanderson filed a $3.1 million lawsuit against the artist, claiming he was seriously injured when he was run over by Gwyneth. The information is from the New York Post.
In the lawsuit, the prosecution says he suffered a traumatic brain injury, broken ribs and “lost the enjoyment of life”. The actress’s defense, however, alleges that it was the optometrist who ran her over. Thus, the two versions will be confronted, before the court, in a trial that should take eight days.
According to the artist’s lawyers, the eye doctor has vision problems and was diagnosed a year before the accident as blind in one eye.
In addition, there is a difference in the amounts requested by the two sides. At an earlier hearing, a judge ruled that Sanderson was not entitled to punitive damages – which would have reduced his earnings by up to $300,000, rather than the expected $3.1 million. Gwyneth is seeking just one dollar in damages plus the costs of attorney fees.
