Since the release of their last album, “Spirit”, there has been a global pandemic and the death of their fellow traveler and founding member, Andy Fletcher.

Depeche Mode losing their loyal friend and collaborator, they chose to remain two, namely Dave Gahan and Martin Gore. They say time is the best healer. So the British band went back into the studio and released today, March 24, their 15th LP, titled “Memento Mori”.

The Latin phrase “memento mori” means “to remember that you are mortal.”

“It sounds grim, but you can see it on the bright side. Live each day to the fullest. And that’s how we want to interpret it,” Martin Gore said of the album and explained: “After Fletch’s death, we decided to carry on as we’re sure that’s what he would have wanted and it’s really given the project an extra meaning.”

This record was created in the early stages of the pandemic, and many of the songs’ stories draw inspiration from that period. In the 12 new tracks we hear different sounds and moods, with themes such as paranoia, psychosis, catharsis and joy.
