A few months ago it premiered on SKAI “Storgi”, a series that deals with the deepest and most timeless social problem: violence. More relevant than ever, with human stories that give goosebumps and very important messages. We live in the time when people are now learning to talk, and as I often say, communication is the worst enemy of any crisis. Through the series, psychotherapy is decriminalized, empathy is given a new dimension and the word goes to people next door, who hid the pain inside for years, but it’s time to break their silence. The time has come for them to be redeemed.

It doesn’t matter if this series did big ratings or not. It is important that for the first time on Greek television we talked about taboo issues, and we demonstrated the importance of human communication, which admittedly is deeply ill these days. Issues such as anxiety, panic attacks, domestic violence, harassment and social inequalities are difficult to touch, let alone interpret and heal.

Our society has gone through a long period of introversionwhich had as a natural consequence that we shut ourselves up in our homes and ourselves, limit our words and “drown” in unspeakable emotions, which eventually became psychosomatic and insomnia.

We made them up well with social media filters, put on our biggest smiles, but only the wrapper changed. Inside is another story. You can very easily fool others around you today, but not yourself. And when at night you turn off the lights and lie down, you come face to face with your true self and suddenly the problems you hid under the rug come out and terrify you. To such an extent that in the end they make you inactive. And there you are, alone in a dark and cold room facing life in its true dimensions and helpless about anything.

So, somewhere there, you are called to make a decision: either to resign and let things flow as life brings you, or to get up and fight, not to go away without a fight, not to surrender your weapons. Life is not easy, never has been. So is psychoanalysis. It is not easy to sit in a chair and open your heart to a stranger. Show all your cards on the table and learn to play the game of life on new terms. To unlearn, to get lost. Get out of your routine for a while and try something else. Like stop blaming yourself and love you a little more. Change priorities, get rid of your stress and get new goals. Have another reason to wake up every morning.

“Love” also came to show us this “discharge” and it seemed to touch sensitive chords. The raving comments of viewers on Twitter are a testament to this appeal, as well as a mirror of a state of affairs. The series acted as a mirror of society and showed what we all fear, as well as the need to share with others what weighs on us. The Doctor received many difficult cases in her office that needed a lot of attention, both in terms of approach and treatment. But how ready is the average Greek to undergo such a dialectical and “bloodless” surgery? And if he decides to open his heart, what topics will he talk about?

According to recent research, the prevalence rates of mental disorders worldwide are around 12%. In other words, right now about one in ten inhabitants of this planet is dealing with some mental disorder of mild, moderate or severe form. The most commonly occurring disorders are those related to depressive symptoms and anxiety.

In a survey carried out in our country by the University of Ioannina found that 14% of participants – in a sample of 10,000 people – had some moderate or severe psychopathology, with women having higher rates than men. Most showed symptoms of psychological fatigue, irritability and restlessness, while a small percentage showed obsessions, phobias and panic. Making a comparison of the findings with the prevalence rates in the rest of Europe, the researchers report that in Greece we present reduced rates of depression compared to the European average, but increased rates of generalized anxiety and anxiety disorders.

So, those that we often call minor symptoms, that we see the first signs and close our eyes, either because we are afraid that those around us will face us, or because we are not ready to face them, no matter how well we hide them, these do not go away , they do not disappear. On the contrary, they become gigantic and at some point overwhelm us.

If this series has taught us one thing, it’s that we need to talk. It’s never too late to come to terms with ourselves, make peace with the past, forgive us for any mistakes we’ve made, and find our center and our reason for being again. Let’s find happiness! It’s hard when you’re digging inside, I know, but how unfair is it for life to pass you by and you to be a mere observer and not a part? It is up to you to take the first step and everything will find its way from there. As you know, the beginning is half the battle.

“Storgi” drops the curtain this Friday, March 31 at 21:00 at night, on SKAI, with a very moving episode. Do not miss it!
