“My home is so special because it is my refuge, my fortress. The only place I have a private life,” the famous singer said in 2002
Cher decided to sell her Malibu mansion at a bargain price. In fact, the amount requested by the famous singer is 75 million dollars.
The 76-year-old Cher set up shop in the Italian Renaissance-style home for the first time in October 2022, according to the Wall Street Journal. After failing to find a buyer, the property is back on the market six months later with a $10 million price cut.
The seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home also has a tennis court and infinity pool. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the property – located on the Pacific Coast Highway – boasts incredible views from the arched windows. There are 40 palm trees planted at the entrance, according to the WSJ, and there is a courtyard with an octagram-shaped fountain.
Cher has previously revealed that she wanted to build her own “version of the Venetian” after being inspired by her visits to Venice and Casa Casuarina, her late boyfriend Gianni Versace’s mansion in South Beach, Miami, according to the “Architectural Digest”.
“She started reading about the Italian Renaissance, got 50 books and was pitching me ideas,” Cher’s designer and longtime friend Ron Wilson told AD. “Both structurally and in terms of the interior, this house was Cher’s idea. My job is to interpret what he’s thinking.”
The home took five years to build and used a variety of luxury materials from Italy and France, handcrafted bronze on the doors and tiles from Spain and Morocco, according to the listing.
“Every day, when I wake up and look out my bedroom window, I can’t help but be surprised,” she said in an interview. “My home is so special because it’s my sanctuary, my fortress, really – the only place I have privacy. There is no other place I would rather be. I feel comfortable here. This house hugs me,” Cher added.
The interiors feature influences from around the world. For example, the living room has a large Moroccan chandelier and the bathroom is designed like a hammam with Turkish wooden screens, according to the WSJ.
In addition to the seven bedrooms, there is also a tower that serves as a guest house. The master suite has a meditation room and two closets, including one that doubles as a panic room.
The home’s lower level reportedly houses an indoor-outdoor gym and theater, while the Oscar-winning singer-actress has an air-conditioned wig room.
