The season for Kalymnos started early this year with the first organized arrivals of climbers taking place from the beginning of March.

Easter is also at the center of tourist interest, during which increased occupancy is expected on the island of mops.

“This year, the call of the destination is enriched with traditions, religious holidays and special forms of tourism that are the star in Kalymnos before and after the summer months. Easter impresses us, wins new friends and is an excellent occasion for holidays on the island in April”, points out the Mayor of Kalymnia Dimitris Diakomichalis.

On Holy Thursday, the obituary of the Virgin Mary to Agios Theologos is characteristic.

On M. Paraskevi, a “parade” of epitaphs takes place on the island with the 14 epitaphs “stealing the extension”, in Pothia, the picturesque port of Kalymnos that is alive with life in an overwhelming atmosphere.

On M. Saturday, the first Resurrection marks the burning of Judas in many parts of the island, while the fireworks start in the central square, which together with the bells shake the whole island. In Kalymnos at Easter, the “protagonist” is the “mouuri”, a traditional recipe with stuffed lamb or goat that is slow-roasted all night on M. Saturday in a covered clay pot in a wood-fired oven that has been previously sealed with bricks and mud.

On Easter Sunday at noon, a traditional feast is set up in the central square with local dance groups. In the afternoon, the fireworks take over. The slopes surrounding the port are occupied by two groups from all the neighborhoods of Kalymnos who start their own “noisy battle” with sparklers. The peculiar “conflict” lasts until late at night and lights up the sky with all colors, offering a unique experience to travelers.
