We’ve talked about this series before and it couldn’t be missing from this list. It’s a series based on Sarah Pinborough’s book that was released in 2017, and has undoubtedly set the bar for psychological thrillers very high.

From the first moment it appeared, everyone was talking about this series. Even after so many seasons this series with self-contained episodes keeps us interested.

The script is essentially based on the memoirs of the deceased Jennifer Worth, who shows us through the eyes of the heroine, Jenny, life in a convent that functions as a hospital for pregnant women. And this all takes place circa 1950, and poor, working-class East London.

Luther

Without exaggeration, the “Luther” series may have been the one that put its protagonist, British actor Idris Elba, on the world map for good. Not that he hadn’t given “rights” with previous roles (The Wire, RocknRolla), but from “Luther” onwards, his career took off. John Luther (Idris Elba) is a brilliant but dysfunctional detective in London, returning to duty after a seven-month absence and a nervous breakdown that left him hunting a serial killer. Will it go back to how it was before? His wife has found a new boyfriend and he tries to get used to the new situation, while at the same time, new murders demand answers.

This British black comedy is based on Charles Forsman’s award-winning graphic novel and tells us about two teenagers, quite nervous, who suddenly decide to go on a road trip together. A highly disruptive roadtrip if you ask us.

Marcella Backland once left the police force for the sake of her family, until her husband left her. Then she returned to her job and to the assassination team to give us a great crime thriller.

If you love the slightly absurd humor of the British, you will definitely love this series full of dialogue with innuendo and surreal references.

Here you will see a gang in post-World War I Birmingham playing a game between thieves and cops. We expect you to agree that it is one of the best period dramas.

Slow Horses

The ‘Slow Horses’ are here to stay, i.e. the group of scumbags, junkies, alcoholics and failed UK National Intelligence Service agents who for some reason haven’t been sacked yet. They gather in the “pit”, that’s what their office is called (God forbid it’s an office), under the direction of veteran Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman unique in this role), and hang out until it’s time to go home, after first receiving every insult imaginable from Lamb. Except that sometimes even the “useless” can prove useful, taking action to solve the kidnapping of a student of Pakistani origin. We’re in the second season of “Slow Horses” and it’s already been renewed for two more.
