‘Music cured me of the disappointment of having worked on TV’, says former Globo actress

Marcella Maia Cordeiro is an actress and singer. Mineira de Juiz de Fora, she moved to Brasília when she was a teenager and there she discovered her artistic vocation. A trans woman, she started working as a model and, at the same time, also in the acting field.

After participating in some theater plays, Maia (as she prefers to be called) finally won her first character on television, in 2021: the Angel of Death in “The More Life is Better”. Mauro Wilson’s plot was shown last year, and the experience of living the antagonist of Globo’s 7 pm soap opera brought more pain than delight.

“I was a victim of transphobia and harassment backstage at Globo,” he tells the F5. In the interview, she says she was afraid to make any accusations at the time. Sought to comment on the accusations, Globo did not manifest itself until the last update of this text.

Maia says that she prefers to leave in the past the embarrassment she reports having experienced in the studios when she learned that an actor would have refused to kiss her on the scene. She also says she wants to forget the bigoted lines she would have heard from an actress in her dressing room. However, she claims that the worst moments experienced at the station would have come from the harassment of a director.

“[Ele] wanted me to go out with him and kept putting pressure on me. I didn’t give in, and my life became hell. It was a situation that hurt me very badly and left me very disappointed with the visual medium”, she explains, who prefers not to say the name of who would have practiced the harassment.

“As much as the person knows that this is not the first time that this has happened and, unfortunately, it is still a problem mainly on television, you get frustrated. I was disappointed with people I admired and lost a little the charm of working in the medium . In my mind, I’ll only go back to soap operas if it’s in Mexico”, says Maia, who decided to keep her focus on music. “I found peace and tranquility. Music brought me back joy and healed me of the disappointment of having worked in TV.”

On the January cover of the Norwegian edition of Playboy magazine, Maia started working on the first single from the album “Contraditória”, which should be released next month. “I’ve been composing for some time now. I really like trap music, I grew up going to samba circles, enjoying funk dances and listening to bossa nova at my grandparents’ house. This mix is ​​where I feed myself to write and compose. A kind of diving, you know? “, comments.

To start the project, the first song she intends to work on is called “Samba”. “It is a happy and plural song. I think I managed to make a very cool melody”, boasts the actress, who currently lives in Lisbon (Portugal).
