One of more powerful human experiences it’s about bringing a new life into the world and thanks to professional birth photographers, families have the opportunity to capture these moments and the wide range of emotions that come with them.

The International Association of Professional Birth Photographers (IAPBP) offers access to birth photographers from around the world and the annual competition “Birth Photography Image Competition” it gives these professionals an opportunity to showcase their work.

In its 13th year, the competition was open to the 1,100 IAPBP members from 52 countries. They submitted their work in four thematic categories: Details of birth, childbirth odyssey, birth and postpartum depression. For the first time, this year’s competition included four subcategories: Black and White Photography, Documentary Photography, Artistic Photography, Difficulty and Loss. The last subcategory is a reminder that stillborn babies or babies who died in childbirth should be honored. Through photography, bereaved families will always carry within them their desired existence.

“We want to honor the one in four people who experience miscarriage and/or loss, and inviting photos of these events to our own celebration of birth photography is one way to do that,” noted the IAPBP for this year’s contest.
