Sarah Paulson says she helped a young Pedro Pascal at the beginning of his career in the 1990s. The two actors have been friends since 1993, when they met at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Sarah spoke about the difficulties Pascal faced when he was not well known and the volume of work was low. “There were times when I gave him my per diem from a job I had so he could have money to feed himself,” she tells Esquire.
The two soon connected at the time of college and the actress recalled moments with Pedro, such as frequent film sessions.
“We were going to see movies all the time in those years and we got so lost in them. You can fill in the blanks on why that is all you want, but I think there were things we wanted to escape mentally, emotionally and spiritually.”
In the same interview, the actor says that he wanted to build a career until he was 29, afraid of not being able to leverage his career after 30. “I died so many deaths”, he says. “My view was that if I didn’t get a lot of exposure at 29 I was done for, so I was constantly readjusting what it meant to commit my life to this profession and give up the idea of looking the way I thought I did when I was a kid. There were so many good ones reasons to put this illusion aside.”
