Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys is accused of sexually abusing and assaulting the singer

by

Member of the Backstreet Boys, Nick Carter will have to answer in court the accusations of sexual abuse and assault against Melissa Schumann. In the April 11 lawsuit, she alleges that the singer used in 2002 “his role, status and power as a well-known singer to gain access, entice, manipulate, exploit and sexually assault”. At the time, she was 18 and he was 22.

Melissa publicly accused Carter in November 2017 in a blog post. She said she was in the girl band Dream when she met him while filming the made-for-TV horror movie “The Hollow.” Schumann, then, described him in the publication as a “relentless” man in not accepting refusals for a more intimate involvement. He also said that even though he was informed about her desire to wait for her first sexual experience until after marriage, he did not respect her. On one occasion, first, the singer would have forced oral sex and then raped her.

Schuman even filed a police report with Los Angeles County in February 2018, but the lawsuit was turned down at the time because the statute of limitations had expired. However, a California law that took effect earlier this year has extended the deadline for victims to report allegations of sexual assault and abuse.

When informed about the process, according to Page Six, Nick Carter denied the accusations and informed that he is suing Melissa Schumann in US$ 2.3 million, a little more than R$ 11 million, under the allegation of extortion. The same allegation was leveled against Shannon Ruth, who also accused Carter of sexually assaulting her on a tour bus of a Backstreet Boys tour in 2001.

Nick Carter’s defense even released a statement reinforcing the extortion charge and his client’s innocence in the singer’s case. “Melissa Schuman has been publicizing this story for many years, but her claim was false when she first made it in 2017 – and it still is. A judge in Nevada recently ruled, after reviewing the extensive evidence we have presented, that there is strong cause for Nick Carter to pursue his suit against Ms. Schuman for conspiring to harm, defame and extort Nick, his associates, his friends and his family.”
