The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew extended an invitation to the Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos to participate on November 28 in the celebration of the 1,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea, Bithynia, together with the Pope of Rome Leo XIV and the Patriarchs of Alexandria Theodore and John of Antioch, as well as to attend the enthronement feast of the Ecumenical Throne in Fanari, on November 30, a day dedicated to the memory of the Apostle Andrew the First, founder of the Church of Constantinople.
“In this historical event, a tangible manifestation of the unity of Eastern and Western Christianity, of the four Patriarchs of the East and the Patriarch of the West, the Pentaarchy of the Patriarchs, we cannot imagine the successor of James the Brother God being absent,” said the Ecumenical Patriarch, adding: “We pray and expect the positive response of His Beatitude brother Patriarch Theophilos, response to his historical responsibility “for the union of all””.
The Ecumenical Patriarch officiated, yesterday, October 22, at the church of Agios Georgios Neochorios, on the Bosphorus, which is one of the three shares of the Holy Sepulcher in Constantinople, on the vespers of the enthronement feast of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, during which the memory of the Apostle Jacob the Elder, the first bishop, is commemorated of Jerusalem.
In his speech, Mr. Bartholomew, addressing Archbishop Antidonos Mr. Nektarios, commissioner of the Holy Sepulcher in Constantinople, referred to the long-standing ties of the Ecumenical Patriarchate with the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and especially to the perennial support offered by the Orthodox Church of the Holy Sepulcher to the Holy Sepulchre.
In detail, the Ecumenical Patriarch said in his speech:
“Today’s prayerful and prayerful communication between our two Churches is an additional link in the chain of our fraternal relations, both in days of glory and blessing and in times of hardship. The attention and honor of the Orthodox Orthodox Church towards the successor of the “Order of the Great” monks, the Holy Sepulcher Brotherhood, the watchful guardian and guard of the holy pilgrimages of our immaculate faith, have been undiminished throughout the centuries.

“We assure you, holy commissioner, that even today, but also in the future, we are always ready to give living testimony of our fraternal feelings and to continue this honorable tradition of providing every help and assistance to the sister Church of Jerusalem. We urge you to convey our fraternal embrace to the Blessed Abbot of the Holy Sepulchre Brotherhood and Patriarch Mr. Theophilos, in the holy memory of his predecessor Jacob the Brother of God”.
In the morning of the same day, the Ecumenical Patriarch attended the divine service, held in the Patriarchal Church of Agios Georgios, on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of his election. Later, at noon, he received the wishes of the Hierarchy of the Throne in Turkey and they all sat down to the festive meal at the Patriarchate.
