The film will revolve around the passionate transatlantic romance between de Beauvoir and writer Nelson Olgreen
Elsa Silberstein will play Simone de Beauvoir, the French feminist writer, in a feature film.
The script will be written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher Hampton and directed by Anne Fontaine.
Silberstein’s Sonia Films will produce the film along with Philippe Carcassonne’s Cine@ and Marco and Lola Pacioni’s Master Movie.
The film will revolve around the passionate transatlantic romance between de Beauvoir and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Nelson Olgreen, according to Variety.
Elsa Silberstein has acquired the movie rights to Simone de Beauvoir’s Lettres à Nelson Algren from Gallimard.
Through the letters, the film will chart the couple’s relationship, which spanned nearly two decades from 1947, in the wake of World War II, to 1964. Two-thirds of the film will take place in Chicago, with the rest of the plot unfolding in Paris.
“I was amazed by the beauty of these letters and by this relationship that began in the most unexpected way after Simone de Beauvoir traveled to Chicago for two days,” said the French actress.
