Golden Spheres: Everything you need to know about the award ceremony

by

The Golden Globe award ceremony will be adapted to the new conditions of Covid-19 this year as well. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) will host the 79th annual Golden Globes on Sunday, January 9, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California, honoring films and series that stood out last year.

While the award ceremony will take place in its traditional venue, there is not much to remember from previous years.

The association gave more information about Sunday’s event, which are detailed below.

Who will attend

There will be no audience or nominees for Sunday’s awards following the rapid rise in Covid-19 cases as the highly contagious Omicron mutation has dominated the US.

Only “selected members and sponsors” will be in the room as the awards are announced, according to the organizing committee.

Attendees must have received the booster dose of the vaccine, as well as show a negative 48-hour PCR test, while all other necessary measures, such as masks and social distance, will be observed.

There will be no red carpet, and no media has been challenged.

Where to watch the award

The Golden Globes were traditionally broadcast on NBC. This year, the ceremony will not be broadcast by the network, in protest of the lack of diversity in the composition of the committee. The HFPA is made up of 87 journalists who nominate Golden Globe nominees and winners each year.

The HFPA has since made updates and revisions to make it more comprehensive after facing a boycott in Hollywood, including Tom Cruise, who returned all three Golden Globe Awards.

In a previous press release, the association said: “Over the past eight months, HFPA has completely revised its statutes, implementing sweeping top-down changes to ethics and code of ethics, diversity, equality and inclusion. governance, participation and most recently, the HFPA has embraced the largest and most diverse team to date with 21 new members, all of whom are voting for the first time in the Golden Globes.

Following the announcement of the nominees in December, Hollywood remained largely silent, with only a few stars reacting to the announcement.

HFPA has not announced whether the awards ceremony will be broadcast live on a network or not.
