The member of Abba, Bjorn Ulvius, expressed the view that avatars are the future by welcoming a 20-year-old female fan of the group, who was the millionth viewer to watch the group’s hit show, “Voyage”.

Bjorn Ulvius praised the technology by inviting the fan to the specially designed Abba Arena at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London, according to The Guardian newspaper.

The Voyage features digital versions of Abba members ‘performing’ some of their biggest hits with a live 10-piece band. Josie Felix, 20, met and chatted with Ulvius and described the experience as “quite extraordinary”.

The show, as stated in its description, “blurs the lines between the physical and the digital” using the “latest motion capture technology.”

“Anieta, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid have created the kind of concert they’ve always wanted, performing songs for their fans at their best: as digital versions of themselves backed by today’s best musicians,” it reads. .

Speaking about Voyage, Ulvius said he believes the technology that makes the show possible offers a glimpse into the future. “Having lived with the technology and the project for more than five years, I think, yes, that’s what the future looks like, that’s what’s going to happen,” he said.

“Copies of ourselves, avatars, will live on after we die and that’s the way of the future,” he added. The member of the legendary Swedish pop/disco music group revealed that while he was initially nervous about the performance, when he watched it with an audience his fears went away.

Referring to the fact that a million viewers saw the show in 11 months he said: “Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected it to be a million before the year was up. That means the venue was almost full every night, which is great.”
