The jury of the Festival consists of well-known and acclaimed Greek and foreign conductors, such as Kostis Konstandaras, Stavros Solomos, Naomi Faran from Israel and Anna Grabowska – Boris from Poland.
With entries from six countries (Estonia, Moldova, Croatia, North Macedonia, Israel and Greece) and for the first time with a competitive nature, the World Festival of Musical Choirs is being held in Thessaloniki for the 12th year this coming weekend, May 6 and 7.
The Festival, in which choirs from Greece and abroad present a musical journey in the world of the musical, is organized by the Cultural and Spiritual Association and the “KORAIS” Choir with the support of Thessaloniki’s agencies, it was emphasized today during a press conference of the organizing committee of the unique cultural institution in the world in terms of its theme and innovation, at the headquarters of the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce.
“The “KORAIS” Choir decided many years ago, in a period of pessimism, to sing a happier and lighter and at the same time qualitative genre and transferred the musical song to the choir” explained the chairman of the board of directors of the “KORAIS” Cultural-Spiritual Association, Gum Army.
“We found that there was no Choir Festival focused on the musical. Most of them are dedicated to religious, classical and folk music, or to a certain era and that’s how the 1st World Festival of Musical Choirs was created,” Mr. Tsichlas emphasized.
It was the world’s first Festival of Musical Choirs, it had a uniqueness in terms of its theme and innovation, but at the same time we made a promise to our members and friends that we would make it global in practice, he said, adding that it stood out for the organization, the quality of the choirs, which were evaluated before participation and large and massive audience participation.
In the 12th Festival of Musical Choirs, held under the auspices of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, seven choirs from Greece, three from Israel, two from Serbia and one choir represent Moldova, Croatia, North Macedonia and Estonia.
The official opening ceremony of the Festival will take place on Saturday 6 May at 11.30, at the Municipal Garden Theatre, in the presence of all the choirs, who will perform a short musical program. The main concerts will take place in the ceremony hall of the A.P.Th. on Saturday 6/5 at 19.30 and on Sunday 7/5 at 11.00 – 19.30.
On the first day, six choirs will compete and the three winners will be given cash prizes totaling 2,000 euros, emphasized Mr. Tsichlas, pointing out that the Festival had to be competitive against very large similar events in neighboring countries.
The jury of the Festival consists of well-known and acclaimed Greek and foreign conductors, such as Kostis Konstandaras, Stavros Solomos, Naomi Faran from Israel and Anna Grabowska-Boris from Poland.
The World Festival of Musical Choirs has been dedicated since its inception to peace, friendship, cooperation, fellowship and solidarity among peoples.
Our own extroversion on the one hand and the interest of institutions, associations and personalities created a broad meeting and we want this to continue, because our aim is to offer quality and large events to the city, to the citizens, to culture” said Mr. Tsichlas .
The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Thessaloniki, (BETH) Anastasios Kapnopolis described the World Festival of Musical Choirs as a particularly important institution, which should be highlighted even more.
“In its 12 years of existence, it has managed to become a global, timeless cultural event in the city and has been embraced and is a pole of attraction for choirs, institutions, and above all for the music-loving public of Thessaloniki” he pointed out and emphasized that the BETH is and will continue to be one of the supporters of the event.
Culture unites and we are present at this very important cultural event on May 6 and 7, said the representative of the Thessaloniki Employment Center, Michael Orologas.
Yiannis Trasanidis, president of the Union of Practitioners and Young Lawyers of Thessaloniki, noted that it is a statutory purpose of the Union to cooperate with other unions and institutions of the city, which have demonstrated important cultural work in recent years, such as the Cultural-Spiritual Association “KORAIS”.
