King Charles III’s coronation concert was held this Sunday (7) – the day after his historic coronation at Westminster Abbey alongside Queen Camilla. Prince William and Kate Middleton were also at the celebration with their two eldest children, Prince George, 9, and Princess Charlotte, 8. After a busy day at the coronation ceremony on Saturday (6), Prince Louis, 5 years old, did not attend.
The musical attractions included names like Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Gary Barlow, from the group Take That, Calum Scott, Olly Murs, Andrea Bocelli, among others. According to The Sun, Adele and Ed Sheeran were invited to sing at the concert, but they didn’t want to, without giving further explanations. Who also did not accept to participate and did not give any justification was Robbie Williams. But his former band Take That performed without him.
Another great attraction who received an invitation to sing at the celebration was Elton John – a great friend of Princess Diana – but the artist, however, was unable to attend, as he is in the middle of his European tour.
On social networks, the hashtag #CoronationConcert (coronation concert in Portuguese) was among the most commented subjects in the world throughout the day. Prince William took the stage in a moving speech to his father and also paid tribute to his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
“As my grandmother said when she was crowned, ‘Coronations are a declaration of our hopes for the future,'” Prince William said, quoting Queen Elizabeth’s 1953 coronation speech. lovingly caring for us. She would be a proud mother.”
But the highlight of the night was when everyone – including King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family – got up to dance to Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long”. Katy Perry also wowed the crowd with her performance of “Roar”, before dedicating the song “Firework” to King Charles III and his charity work.
Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman, Pierce Brosnan, Dame Joan Collins and Disney’s beloved Winnie the Pooh also made appearances, along with Sir Tom Jones, Bear Grylls and more in some of the day’s pre-recorded skits that revealed little-known facts about the King Charles.
