American actress, Susan Sarandonwas arrested during a protest at the New York State Capitol in Albany in support of restaurant workers fighting for increase in the minimum wage.

The Spectrum News 1 Albany reported that Susan Sarandon was arrested along with eight other protest participants, including New York lieutenant governor candidate Anna Maria Arcila.

The protesters who were arrested were detained and released with an obligation to appear in court at a future date. Protesters called for restaurant workers to be included in raising New York state’s minimum wage to $17 an hour.

Employees in restaurants and tipped businesses are exempt from the increase. Currently, restaurant workers are paid $15 an hour, combining a $10 wage and a tip allowance of no more than $5.

Susan Sarandon is a regular at protests and last week took part in a march in New York in support of members of the Screenwriters Guild of America who are on strike. He has also been arrested in the past, in 2018, during a protest against former US President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
