Despite her long career, actress Jane Fonda, 85, remains active and even admits to having recently been confronted with some situations for the first time. In an interview with the American magazine Vanity Fair, Fonda spoke about the sequel to the production “Do Jeito Que Elas Querem” and, among some revelations and comments, detailed how she feels in the current phase of her life.
Fonda, who had three marriages, never wore a wedding dress, for example. In the first, with filmmaker Roger Vadim, she is said to have worn a short white dress and black boots. The classic long, light-colored outfit with a veil and wreath was also missing from the other weddings – the second with activist and politician Tom Hayden and the third with billionaire CNN founder Ted Turner.
She even recalled that the dress worn at the ceremony with Turner was “an old dress that I had worn in a movie years ago”, referring to a model with a high collar from the movie “Rollover” (1981). The two were married ten years after production. Interestingly, the actress had never worn a wedding dress in the cinema and, now, she breaks this taboo in “The Way They Want – New Chapter”.
In the film, Fonda plays Vivian, a woman who leaves for Italy with her group of book club friends. There, they will celebrate the future marriage of the character.
Bachelorette party is also something new for the star. “Walking around Rome with a big sash around my chest and a bridal veil was a very interesting experience. If people weren’t going to stop to look anyway, at that point they sure did”, reflects the actress, who said she was “amazed” by the experience.
But unlike her character in the feature, Jane has no interest in remarriage. She is happy with her current marital status. “Now I’m almost 86 years old. I certainly don’t want to get married again. I can do a lot more when I’m alone,” said the actress, who pointed out that watching streaming platforms was one of her habits.
Fonda remains an activist and concerned about climate change. In addition to having published books on the subject, she was already arrested with a group of protesters in 2019, in a protest that demanded more action from governments in the world. She also founded a political action committee (The Jane Political Action Committee) with the objective of combating politicians involved with the fossil fuel industry.
The actress also spoke of what she feels when she looks at her image: “When I see myself in the mirror and say: ‘Body, you helped me to overcome many things, you went through a lot with me and I thank you for that’. And that’s my attitude now,” said Fonda, who no longer has plastic surgery because “she doesn’t want to look distorted.”
In addition to plastic surgery, alcohol and sex were other topics in the interview. Asked which of these “addictions” she misses the most, Jane Fonda responds bluntly: “I don’t miss anything. If I miss sex, I have a drawer full of vibrators. It’s okay. I don’t have any big voids in my life. I don’t miss anything from my youth. So I feel very blessed.”
