The cut of the kissing scene between the characters Clara (Regiane Alves) and Helena (Priscila Sztejnman) in “Vai na Fé”, admitted by Globo, has upset not only viewers, but the artists used to working at the station.
Tainá Müller took to social media to criticize the channel’s stance. In 2014, in the soap opera “Em Família”, the actress played Marina, a woman whose romantic partner was Clara, played by Giovanna Antonelli.
“I suffered a lot with this story at the time of #Clarina. I thought it was absurd, in reality. I understand that Brazil is a conservative country, but not normalizing the affection between two people of the same sex only maintains prejudice”, he opined.
In her view, prejudice has hardly changed from that time to today. In 2021, Tainá even posted scenes of the plot’s characters seven years earlier and drew the attention of producers that there was a huge audience that wanted to see lesbian love stories on the air.
“And the question I’ve asked myself since 2014: What’s wrong with a kiss? Or rather, the problem isn’t in the kiss, it’s in those who are uncomfortable with seeing a kiss. ‘Ah, but the children…’ So cut all the kisses, straight too. There are things you can’t go back on, “he wrote.
In the scene of “Vai na Fé”, Clara and Helena seemed to be flirting during a consultation, and a change of direction happens the moment they approach each other. The continuity of the scene suggests that something happened and that they regret it. But no more intimate affection is shown.
When contacted, Globo confirmed that there was an edition. “Every soap opera is subject to editing. A routine that meets programming or artistic strategies. This is even signaled in the summaries of chapters released by Globo,” he said in a note.
