Rita Lee’s last autograph was dedicated to her grandson, Arthur, five years old, son of Antônio Lee and writer Camila Fremder. Who told the story was the artist’s youngest in a Mother’s Day publication on Instagram. “One day, while I was visiting her in the hospital with my son Arthur, the subject came up. I commented that Grandma Rita had a really cool autograph, with a drawing of a flying saucer and everything! He was excited: ‘I want an autograph from grandma Rita!’ And she, of course, didn’t deny it,” Antônio said.

He also shared a photo of the paper that bears Rita’s dedication to her grandson. “For Arthur, with a kiss from grandma”, says the message, which brings together the artist’s signature and two drawings of flying saucers. Rita Lee passed away last Monday (8), aged 75, and it is the first Mother’s Day that Antônio and his brothers, Beto and João, spend without their mother.

“I put a piece of paper and a pen on her lap. Her hands were weak, her wrists no longer had the same flexibility as before. But she took on the challenge”, reported the youngest son. “First, she did the dedication and signature. Then the flying saucer, probably her favorite subject. She always put more effort into that part.”

But the first drawing did not completely satisfy Rita, Antônio explained. “While she was finishing the drawing, she complained that her hand didn’t work as she wanted. Not satisfied with the disk, she tried to draw another one further to the right, just to prove to herself that she could do a better one. going, bag!’.”

Rita Lee’s youngest and Arthur’s father reported that he did not quite understand the autograph ritual and the commotion caused by a piece of paper with a signed name. Today, more than ever, he says he understands: “It’s a relic, a piece of that moment, living proof with signature acknowledgment that the encounter really happened.”

“It’s been more than 50 years since this exchange between idol and fan. That same gesture was repeated thousands of times. Thousands of sheets of paper scattered around that mark a moment when she was present. And without knowing that that would be the last time, went there and signed his name so beautiful. Dedicated to a big fan who will miss grandma a lot “, he also wrote.

Antônio recalled that his mother never refused an autograph and that the worst that could happen was for someone to arrive without pen and paper and she would say ‘wow, bug!?’. “Happy most painful Mother’s Day in the world, Mãezinha”, he added at the end of the statement.
