The person responsible for the weapons used in the recording of the western “Rust” filed a lawsuit against the supplier of scenographic objects of the production this Wednesday (12). She claims the company distributed live ammunition to the film set where, according to police, actor Alec Baldwin accidentally fired a shot that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez Reed, 24, is seeking damages from prop supplier Seth Kenney and his company, PDQ Arm and Prop LLC, according to a lawsuit filed in the New Mexico state court. The amount of the claim for damages was not disclosed.
Kenney could not be reached at the conclusion of this post for comment. In an interview with ABC News in December, he denied that live ammunition arrived on set because of his company.
The lawsuit filed by Reed says she remembers loading the gun with bullets labeled inert ammunition, shaking the case to produce the characteristic sound that inert bullets are supposed to make. “As far as Hannah knew, the gun was loaded with 6 inert bullets,” the suit reads.
The suit also says she left control of the gun 15 minutes before the shooting, as Covid-19 protocols kept her outside the church where the incident took place. The shot was not recorded, as Baldwin was rehearsing for a scene that would be filmed later.
The October 21 incident is being investigated by New Mexico officials and has shaken the US cultural sector.
