When authorities in the city of Zhengzhou abruptly imposed sanctions on the central Chinese city last week, a young woman, known only by her last name, Wang, was having dinner at the home of a blind man.
“Shortly after I arrived in Zhengzhou, there was a new outbreak of coronavirus and his community was locked up so I could not leave his home,” the Shanghai-based woman told The Paper, adding that she had gone there. the city in order to stay a week and meet prospective companions.
“I’m growing up and my family suggested ten candidates for me … The fifth one wanted to show off his cooking skills and invited me to his house for dinner.”
Trapped inside his house, Wang soon began uploading videos of her daily life after the sudden lockdown.
These videos, which show the candidate cooking for her, doing housework and working on his computer while she sleeps, went viral.
So far, however, love has not been able to flourish during this prolonged blind date, as she says, as she is looking for a more talkative partner.
“Apart from the fact that he’s … almost dumb, everything else on him is pretty good,” the woman told The Paper.
“Even though the food he makes is mediocre, he still wants to cook, which I find wonderful.”
More than 100 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Zhengzhou since last week as China struggles to stem the tide of both the Delta and Omicron variants.
Few cities, including Xi’an, have been locked down, leaving its 14 million inhabitants homeless.
Other cities have imposed limited quarantines for specific areas and some are conducting mass diagnostic tests.
