Next month, the Rembrandt Museum in Amsterdam will start a very special project entitled “The Poor Man’s Rembrandt Project”with which he will offer… tattoos inspired by the great Dutch painter and his works, at a price of €100-250.

Four tattoo artists were selected for the project. Among them is 71-year-old Henk Schiffmacher, a celebrity in the field of tattoos in the Netherlands – and beyond – who has written a book on the history of tattoos and is known as Hanky Panky. His partner, tattoo artist and painter Tycho Veldhoen, as well as artists Rupa van Teylingen and Timothy John Englisch, will participate in the museum’s initiative.

“We’re all big fans of Rembrandt,” Englisch told Hyperallergic, noting that Rembrandt’s technique was very similar to tattoo art. “The relaxed and fast way he drew something in just a few lines was incredible,” he said.
