The private island of Berg off the coast of Bigbury, South Devon England available for sale. On the island there is the luxury hotel, Burgh Island Hotel, which was built in 1929 and has hosted famous guests The Beatles, Nancy Cunard, The Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

It is even rumored that US President Eisenhower and UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill met at the hotel before D-Day in 1945. But the most famous guest was perhaps Agatha Christie, who had found refuge on the island and she wrote two of her novels there, “Two Crimes Under the Sun” and “After No One Left”.

The island, which is being sold by estate agency Knight Frank, is described as almost unique in the UK and the hotel one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in Europe. Bids start at £15 million.

Owner Giles Fuchs told the BBC that he has had the privilege of refurbishing and upgrading the Burgh Island Hotel over the past few years and is incredibly proud of what he has achieved. It is an important part of Devon’s history and I am excited to see what the future holds for one of Britain’s most valuable tourism assets, he said.

Fuchs later said he wants to sell it because the hotel is “a demanding mistress and he ended up getting more and more involved with it at the expense of his life and other businesses.”
