Singer-songwriter Rita Lee, who died at the age of 75 on May 8, became the name of a park in Rio de Janeiro.

The Rio City Hall published in the Official Gazette, on Wednesday (24), a decree that officializes the name of the artist for the Olympic boulevard, located inside the Olympic Park, in Barra da Tijuca, west of the city.

Rita Lee Park is an area of 36,000 square meters that will be transformed into a natural public park. Work began in February this year.

In recent years, the space has received the rock city of Rock In Rio.

In the decree, the city hall highlighted Rita’s irreverent and libertarian profile and her passion for Rio.

The park will be on a route that connects the main areas of the park – arenas, terraces and an esplanade for events in front of the Jacarepaguá lagoon.

There will also be a forest with 900 trees and 16,000 bushes, sports courts, squares, skate park, wet square and colored floors.

In São Paulo, fans call the planetarium at Ibirapuera Park Rita Lee, although there is no such official homage. The singer was veiled at the site by family, friends and fans.

According to one of her sons, João Lee, the artist had a close relationship with the park, where she had picnics with her family.

“The planetarium at Ibirapuera was a weekly must, and after the session, a banana-split at the cafeteria next door”, wrote the singer in her first autobiography.

Journalist and editor Guilherme Samora, a friend of Rita and contributor to her memoirs, advocates that an avenue in São Paulo be named after her and cites Avenida Paulista.
