US Justice has accepted the charge of manslaughter (when there is no intention to kill) against actor Alec Baldwin in the case of the death of director of photography Halyna Hutchins during the recording of the film “Rust”, in 2021,
The decision was recorded by the judge handling the case this Thursday (1), but the details of the agreement were not revealed, according to the NY Post. In October, Matthew Hutchins, Halyna’s widower, announced that the parties had settled the lawsuit and were awaiting court approval. The settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit comes about a month after prosecutors dropped Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter charges related to the shooting.
The protagonist of “Rust” had been charged in January with involuntary manslaughter for the accidental shooting on the recordings in October 2021. He could face up to 18 months in prison if convicted. Prosecutors accused Baldwin of negligently firing a .45-caliber Colt revolver in preparation for a scene at the Bonanza Creek ranch, New Mexico, where the crew was filming the Western.
During the rehearsal of a scene, actor Alec Baldwin had the gun that fired and hit the director. Halyna Hutchins was in front of the actor with a camera. She was hit in the chest, was taken to a hospital in the region, but died. The film’s director, Joel Souza, was also injured.
