It seems like every month, there’s a new amazing diet plan that promises miracles. More and more nutritional programs with the aim of immediate and rapid weight loss are added to the list of “express or fad diets”.

But why are these strict and deprivation diets not something you should follow as tempting as they sound?!

They just don’t work

Detox diets and fad diets are very temporary. They are not going to help you achieve long-term weight and fat loss. You may see a temporary decrease in the number on your scale, but it will not improve the overall results of your health and body image. Weight lost during a crash diet is likely from lean muscle and water, but not body fat.

When you follow a diet like this, you won’t be able to maintain the low number on the scale for long. In fact, it is very common to gain weight after a crash diet, because you simply cannot continue to eat this way.

Most express diets do not include exercise
If you think about it a little more, all these diets require you to eat only certain foods or forbid others, without having to do anything in the exercise part. But this claim is a red flag.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) exercise not only helps you lose weight but also helps prevent weight regain and has multiple health benefits.

They are dangerous

Strict diets can cause serious health risks. They can deplete the body of vitamins, minerals and essential nutrients. They also lead to problems such as arrhythmia – irregular heartbeat, insomnia and feeling stressed. When someone loses weight quickly, they lose electrolytes, which can also cause dehydration, dizziness, and in extreme cases, kidney damage.

This can happen even if you decide to follow them for a few days. For this reason, I suggest that next time you think about it a little better.

One type of diet does not suit everyone
Not all people are the same, and for that very reason, our diet shouldn’t be either. Every express diet does not take into account at all who it is aimed at. If you have any health problem, any nutritional deficiency, your current weight, your age and gender, which indicates that something will not work properly with such a nutritional plan.

But, last but not least, there are healthier alternatives

I personally don’t like the term “diet”. I prefer to replace it with a diet that has in it deliciousness, taste, pleasure, a specific nutrition education plan and leaves dieters better and not worse at the end of this journey. There is no quick fix to losing weight, so planning is very important. Yes, long-term change can take a lot of effort.

You have to commit to changing your lifestyle, but remember that it’s about your overall better health, not just the bikini you dream of wearing on your next dive.

Proper weight loss is about creating a lifestyle and diet that you can live happily without regrets and guilt, and most importantly, that makes you feel good about yourself.
