The iconic work Koyaanisqatsi: Life out of Balance it completes 40 years since its first presentation and will be played in its entirety. A prophetic film produced by Francis Ford Coppola, music by the minimalist composer Philip Glass and directed by Godfrey Reggio.
The film’s soundtrack will be performed by the Philip Glass Ensemble, Philip Glass’s artistic vehicle, while the shocking film will be screened at the same time. The Philip Glass Ensemble will be joined by the Academia Athens Youth Choir. Directed by Michael Riesman.
An innovative and harmonious pairing of music and cinema tells everything without dialogue, narration, and actors, with lyrics in the native Hopi language. The style, the drama, the color of each part of the film is determined by the combination of images and music. For this performance, this time, the Herodeion will function as an installation where sound and image will coexist.
