Founder of the band RPM, Luiz Schiavon could be seen on the Globo screen weekly between 2004 and 2010, when he was director of the band on the Domingão do Faustão program. Died this Thursday (15) at the age of 64, victim of an autoimmune disease, he was also one of the co-authors of the jingle of the Videocassettes: “Smile, remove the sadness from that face, celebrate that time does not stop, the good thing in life and be happy…”. The song was written together with Luciana Cardoso, wife of Faustão.
Their six-year relationship brought them together. Schiavon did not hide his admiration for the presenter and used to praise the way he commanded the attraction. In an interview in 2019 with the newspaper O Dia, Schiavon stated that Fausto’s charisma was what guaranteed Domingão’s success. “It’s amazing how fast you think even when something gets out of hand, which is common on a live show,” he said.
“He uses musicians, dancers and other professionals as a kind of ‘ladder’ to break the rhythm, provoke funny situations and talk about issues that are on the agenda. But he does it with great sensitivity”, added Schiavon.
The presenter was even sued in 1995 by the cameraman Ivalino da Silva, the Gaucho, one of Fausto’s so-called “stairways” to his graces. Called a “cuckold”, “heartthrob at a wake” and “asphalt pervert”, among other not very edifying classifications, Gaúcho filed a lawsuit against his former boss and won the court dispute, which dragged on for eight years.
Schiavon was also the target of Faustão’s jokes, but he never complained about any comments about him. “I don’t remember being in an embarrassing situation. The jokes are always made with good humor and a lot of education”, he said, four years ago.
The musician’s work at Globo was not restricted to Domingão do Faustão. Schiavon was responsible for the soundtracks for the telenovelas Rei do Gado, Terra Nostra, Esperança and Cabocla.
“‘O Rei do Gado’, the soundtrack sold 5 million copies. It was the best seller in history”, recalled the composer, in 2020. “It was an impressive brutality. In fact, the soap opera was fantastic, the plot and the soundtrack too. Humbly, the opening was really cool too”.
