BBB 22: Tadeu Schmidt says he has the freedom to create his way of presenting

by

“BBB has the magical power to open doors to new opportunities.”

Those who claim are aware of the facts: doctor Thelma Assis, 37, winner of the 20th edition of Big Brother Brasil (Globo). “I’ve always liked to communicate, I joke that I’ve always been a show-off doctor (laughs) and the program allowed me to further enhance what I feel and what I have to say,” she says.

“Today my voice has a much greater power of reach”, he says. “I continue to be Thelma a doctor, but also a communicator who uses her influence to be a spokesperson for causes that she believes in and reach people in a positive way. I feel fulfilled!”

Starting this Monday (17), the program should change the lives of another group of 20 participants from the groups Pipoca (made up of anonymous) and Camarote (of famous guests), but also of a new presenter. It is the journalist Tadeu Schmidt, 47, who the public got used to seeing in front of Fantástico for 14 years.

He replaces Tiago Leifert, 41, who presented the program between 2017 and 2021 and left Globo last year in the middle of the 10th season of the talent show The Voice Brasil, citing personal problems – in September, he had already announced that he would not renew his contract. . Before that, Pedro Bial commanded the “crazy ship”.

Schmidt says he kept up with his predecessors. “I think it’s a great show, I’ve been a fan since the first edition”, he says. “I watched to see the performance of Pedro Bial and, later, Tiago Leifert, who are superstars. I enjoyed watching that.”

“I also saw it through VTs, which are a lot of fun, and to observe people’s connection, psychological characteristics, how they reveal themselves”, he continues. “Everyone does that, right? When we’re talking to someone, we’re thinking: ‘Oh, this person is more bossy, this one is more shy, this one is more extroverted…’. It’s great to be able to see people like this. form.”

Even though he had the best moments in his head, he revisited the previous editions. “I’ve watched and rewatched a lot, including the entire previous edition,” he said. “In addition to talking to the program’s team, of course, I chose to do it that way to understand everything better and get more intimate with reality.”

However, knowledge about the program’s past does not mean that the presenter will follow the models already tried. “I put my soul into everything I do and, at BBB, it’s no different,” he says. “I’m learning a lot from the people on the team, who have so much experience on the show, and I’m also having the freedom to create my way of presenting.”

Despite the journalist’s name having taken a large part of the public by surprise, Tadeu Schmidt himself says that he had already imagined himself “several times” ahead of the program. “Including many years before Bial left”, he comments. “I kept thinking what it would be like to be there, what would be my way of presenting…”

“At the same time, when they were speculating who could host the show in his place [Bial] and they said my name, along with other people’s, I thought it was super cool”, he remembers. “Even so, I didn’t imagine it would really happen, so it was a very big surprise to receive the news of the invitation.”

GREAT EXCHANGE

The new presenter’s excitement about the role was unexpected even for the team. “This fan side of him even took us by surprise”, says director-general Rodrigo Dourado. “He is totally interested, very available, very open to learning and wanting to be part of the processes, to understand what we do.”

“Tadeu is very empathetic”, he praises. “He will fall in love with these people as we fall in love. He is also very excited about the tests, he has already made himself available to be together when creating and developing the dynamics of the game [jogo]… It’s been a great exchange.”

Dourado was present in all 22 editions of Big Brother Brazil and believes that the program has changed a lot over 20 years. “BB was never just another television show”, he says. “Since he debuted, in 2002, he has always been very present in the lives of Brazilians. And he knew how to reinvent himself.”

“This is what builds the longevity of which we are so proud,” he says. “BBB manages to walk together with the transformation of people, of life in society. It is a program that nurtures a very intimate relationship with its audience and that is present in different channels even before the term multiplatform exists.”

For him, however, what hasn’t changed is people’s eagerness to know about others. “The program connects a lot with the Brazilian curiosity for life”, he says. “The possibility of seeing oneself, mirroring oneself and imagining oneself within the program often goes beyond competition.”

“Today, people also want to be on top of what happens at the BBB so they can be part of the conversation, the discussion”, he analyzes. “Another fact is that the BBB offers the public an unpredictable story, told by the participants. A dramaturgy in reverse.”

“When you put people inside the house, hand them a blank page and say that the rule is to run away from the wall and reach the final, what they will do depends on each one”, he continues. “And it has even more layers: people are one when they’re alone, but they reveal themselves as others, depending on the company. This unpredictability is very interesting.”

SOCIAL NETWORKS

This public appetite, however, is something that scares those who follow social networks. Even before the premiere, the presenter’s profiles are already buzzing with comments about the show. “The feeling is that our exchange is already anticipating a little bit of what we’re going to live together throughout the season,” he says. “I see that excitement is something in common between us!”

With a background as an athlete and as a presenter of sports programs, Tadeu Schmidt says he is used to the most emotional fans. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my life, it’s how to deal with crowds (laughs)”, he says. “I learned that the fan uses the heart.”

“The same guy who is super balanced, super centered, when he goes to the crowd, he goes crazy!”, he comments. “But I learned that you can’t be upset with fans. In the end, one supports João and the other supports Maria. If I talk about Maria, João’s people may not like it. If I talk about João, here comes the group from Mary. Normal.”

The journalist says that, come the hate (hate) whatever, it will focus on the passion that brought the show to its 22nd edition. Even if he hadn’t become a presenter, he says that one day he could be seen on the show as a participant in the Camarote group.

“I would love to be a brother for the experience of being in a closed place, in an intense coexistence, being surrounded by the cameras and with everyone seeing what is happening”, he says. “But, above all, for being participating in a game.”

“I was an athlete, my family is of athletes”, he explains. “A game in which the path to victory is not my speed, my strength or my talent, but my way, the way I act and position myself in the face of things, my character, my sympathy … This is too much!”
