“A work that does not contain human creation is ineligible in any category,” according to the American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences
The American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced a new rule barring artificial intelligence (AI) creators from running for Grammy Award.
The rule, passed in May at the Academy’s board meeting, states that “only human creators can be submitted for consideration” and that “a work that does not contain human creation is not eligible in any category».
However, if the work is based on human creation combined with artificial intelligence, only the human creation element is eligible. Furthermore “it must be meaningful and more than de minimis». The Academy defines “de minimis” as “that which is of no importance or importance, so insignificant as to deserve to be ignored.”
Creators who exclusively offer any artificial intelligence material merged into a work will also be ineligible for nomination. “If there is an AI voice singing the song or an AI orchestration, we will consider the projectHarvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, told Grammy.com. “But in a category based on songwriting, the music has to be primarily written by a human,” he added.
Harvey Mason Jr. added that artificial intelligence will “undoubtedly” shape the future of the music industry, and that to downplay its importance, the Grammy Awards will have to confront questions about artificial intelligence head-on.
