Major blow to trafficking circuits drugs brought about by the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard, with the seizure of 135.88 kg of crude cannabis and the arrest of a 50-year-old Albanian citizen in the area of Igoumenitsa.
According to the Coast Guard, in the early morning hours of October 24, 2025, a patrol vessel of the L.SEL.AKT. located a semi-submerged polyester boat in the sea area of Prasoudi Island and proceeded to the rescue of the 50-year-old operator.
The mobilization was immediate, with the participation of officials from the Security Office, the Regional Drug Prosecution Team (PODIN) and the Special Missions Unit (KEA) of the Central Port Authority of Igoumenitsa, who conducted extensive searches at sea and on land.
During the investigations, with the assistance of a private diver, five plastic packages containing 79.75 kg of raw cannabis were recovered from inside the vessel. The following day (October 25, 2025), in the “Vonda” sea area of Sayadas, an additional bag with six nylon packages and 56.13 kilograms of the same substance was detected.
In total, the confiscated quantity amounted to 135.88 kilograms of cannabis, with an estimated value of 400,000 euros.
The arrested person, who lacked legal documents, faces charges of drug law violations and illegal entry into the country. The transport vessel, the narcotics and a mobile phone were also seized.
