No action will be taken against the trans activists who targeted author Jay Kay Rowling, Scottish police said on Monday.
The author of Harry Potter reported to the police that activists posted on Twitter a photo of her house in Edinburgh. Rowling, who has been criticized for her views on transgender people, described the act as “doxxing” – a malicious act of disclosing sensitive personal information.
Rowling claimed that her home address was revealed when a photo of the three activists outside her home went viral in November.
She wrote on Twitter that the image depicted activists in front of her house, “carefully placed to ensure” that her address was visible. She believes that the activists had tried to “intimidate” her to “talk about gender-based women’s rights”. Activists deleted the photo the day after it was published.
A Scottish police spokesman commented that “investigations have been carried out and no criminal activity has been identified”.
Rowling sparked reactions in June 2020 for posting tweets about the phrase “menstruating men” – opposing the use of the word “women”.
Many argued that her views “reduced the identity” of trans people, while Harry Potter movie stars, including Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, kept their distance from her comments.
In mid-December, the author ironically commented in an article in The Times that “the (British) police have been criticized for announcing that male genital mutilation will be recorded as committed by a woman if the perpetrator ‘identifies himself as a woman. ‘». The author’s sharp comment provoked outrage.
