Former Boris Johnson chief executive Dominique Cummings said on his blog and Twitter account that the British prime minister had been warned in advance that the May 20, 2020 event in Downing Street, which he had attended, was a party and that lockdown rules should be canceled.
Mr Johnson has apologized to the House of Commons for attending the rally in Downing Street Garden, but said he thought it was a working meeting.
Mr Cummings, who has been one of the prime minister’s most vocal critics since he was ousted from Downing Street in November 2020, claims that a high-ranking official in the prime minister’s office himself told Boris Johnson’s private secretary, Reynolds, who had sent out invitations urging everyone to bring drinks, said the rally should be canceled.
Mr. Reynolds asked the Prime Minister, but he said that the rally could take place normally and eventually both of them attended, Mr. Cummings claims.
He notes that he and other witnesses would be willing to testify under oath. He even adds that he himself warned the Prime Minister about the party.
He points out that this is why Boris Johnson has repeatedly lied to the House about the parties.
The serious allegation of deception of the parliament is a reason for resignation, due to violation of the ministerial code.
A Downing Street spokesman had earlier dismissed as “untrue” reports by three journalists from three different media outlets, citing sources warning the prime minister of the May 20 party.
