An actress who “brings to life” paintings, a girl who makes dolls, a young kindergarten teacher who works on the familiarity of children with the New Media and the inspirer of history, the International Puppet Festival and the Pantomime Kilkis are just some of those who on Monday night, on the first floor of Bensoussan Khan.
That is where the “Homo Bufus” began to take shape, a ten-day festival that aims to “animate us, unite us and take us out of seriousness”, as its organizers, Ioanna Mamakouka, Stylianos Dokouz, Ioanna Serafteimidou and Tin.
“Homo Bufus”, with the subtitle “From the lifeless to the living” and centered on the doll, is aimed at both children and adults who are looking for ways to bring out their childish and creative selves.
From Bensoussan Khan all over the city
Starting from Bensoussan Khan – the oldest inn in the city, located in Ano Ladadika, on Edessis Street and survived many demolitions and the great fire of 1917 – and action points all over Edessis Street, the beach and the port, the The ten-day festival is expected to start on April 1, 2022 “like a lie”, as noted by its organizers.
In collaboration with creative units and groups of Thessaloniki, but also with the Theater Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, “Homo Bufus” gives “a step to young people to show their work”, as stressed at the meeting Stergios Proios, who teaches set design at the Theater Department.
“It’s necessary what you do. You give the world the opportunity to participate “, added, in turn, the artistic director of the Kilkis Puppet Theater Juan Jose Corales, as one of the pillars of the event is the participation of the citizens.
Until the beginning of February, the organizers are gathering proposals for actions, but also for financial and communication support, in order for most of the festival activities to be free to the citizens.
The owl and the delusion
The title of the Festival is a call to get out of the delusion and immobility, which to a large extent was imposed on us by the coronavirus. The eagle owl, who “lent” his name to it, is misunderstood or better yet has … misled us. It is an intelligent bird that easily manages to secure its food and avoid its pursuers. He is considered lame because he stays almost still during the day, but he is hyperactive at night. “Homo Bufus” will be divided into three zones (morning-noon-evening) and will include performances, workshops, lectures and educational programs.
