“The need to take action on borrowers affected by the economic consequences of the pandemic, as the growing uncertainty and insecurity of over-indebted consumers about the settlement of their debts and the protection of their main residence is increasing” Today’s announcement by the Greek Consumer Workers’ Union of GSEE.
The association cites as an example the case of a borrower and his wife as a guarantor with loan obligations to four banks. The Hellenic Consumer Workers’ Union of GSEE undertook to collect the data and study in detail the case of the couple, proposing individualized scenarios and solutions for each bank according to their capabilities.
The first of these receivables management companies, which responded, agreed to settle the amount due of 76,500 euros on the following favorable terms:
• Write-off of expenses and interest on arrears: 63,500 euros (-87%)
• Immediate Lump sum Payment 13,000 euros
• Final repayment of the entire loan
In this way, the total amount of the current debt of 196,000 euros was drastically reduced, time was secured to settle – with the support of EEKE and the ongoing negotiations for months – further debts of 119,500 euros.
Finally, EEKE reminds that since 2010 it has been providing consumers with support and advice for the out-of-court settlement of their debts to credit institutions.
