BBB 22: Ana Maria Braga rebuts Naiara Azevedo about ‘skin tones’

Presenter Ana Maria Braga, 72, used social media this Tuesday morning (18) to counter a speech by country singer Naiara Azevedo, 32, who is confined to the 22nd edition of Big Brother Brasil (Globo).

Naiara said during a conversation that she didn’t see “different shades of skin” and said that she was taught by her parents “to love and respect”. On her Instagram, Ana Maria explained that she sees this speech as problematic.

“Not wanting racism to exist is different from denying it. I learned, surrounding myself with patient and loving people, that this ‘equality thinking’ causes pain in black people”, began the presenter of the program Mais Você (Globo).

“Because they are the ones who suffer (literally) in their skin and only they can testify whether racism exists or not. It’s as if you told the doctor you’re in pain and he tells you that the pain doesn’t exist, because he’s not feeling anything” , she continued.

“I hope that Naiara surrounds herself with loving people and learns that too. And that in the future there will be this world where color is indifferent. But for now the security guard at the expensive store sees color, the employer sees color… As long as many people are seeing color and many people are suffering prejudice of all kinds because of color, we have to see color”, he added in the publication.

After the show’s debut, the singer’s name has already gone up on social media and many comments compare her with Karol Conká, protagonist of the previous edition – owner of the biggest rejection ever seen in the reality show, with 99.17% of the votes.

Like the other Camarote participants, Naiara entered Big Brother Brasil only on Monday night (17), at the end of the live program broadcast. The members until then anonymous, from the group Pipoca, passed through the door of the most guarded house in Brazil in the afternoon.
