Prince Harry and Meghan finish moving and leave Frogmore House after being ‘evicted’ by the king

by

Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday (29) that Prince Harry, youngest son of King Charles III, and his wife, Meghan Markle, will no longer occupy Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate. It was there that they stayed on their trips to the UK.

Frogmore Cottage, a 400 square meter home located in the grounds surrounding Windsor Castle, around 40 kilometers west of London, was donated to the couple by Queen Elizabeth II in 2018, following her wedding.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have lived in California since 2020, the year they left the British monarchy and the United Kingdom. Since then, the house has been available for rent all year round, according to the local press.

Prince Harry, 38, maintains very tense relations with the king and other members of the British royal family and, therefore, rarely travels to his country. His last visit was in early June, when he went to testify at a trial against the editor of the Mirror newspaper. He and other celebrities have accused the vehicle of illegally collecting personal information for years.

Prior to that, Harry visited London on May 6 for his father’s coronation. He attended alone, leaving his wife and children behind in the United States. A few months after publishing, in January, his memoir “In the Shadow”, in which he harshly attacks the monarchy, Harry was invited to return the house that cost him around 2.4 million pounds (U$ 3 million, or BRL 14.5 million) to renovate.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have left Frogmore House,” announced royal finance chief Michael Stevens in the monarchy’s annual spending publication. He also confirmed that Harry and Meghan have reimbursed all costs for the renovation. The palace did not say who could be the new resident of the house.

The British press claims that Charles III wants his brother Andrew – removed from royalty for accusations of sexual assault against a minor, years ago, in the United States – to leave the Royal Lodge of the Windsor estate, a 30-bedroom mansion, to move to the chalet much smaller than Frogmore.
