“Ticket” for the Oscars is the International Festival of Drama Short Films, which was selected as one of the world’s leading by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has chosen the International Drama Short Film Festival among the top in the world, certifying it for Oscar nominations of short films distinguished in its International and National Competition program (Oscar® qualified).

“From now on, the Drama Festival officially becomes a “ticket” for the Oscar Awards,” the Festival says in its announcement.

In particular, the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected the world’s leading festivals to collaborate in forming the final list of short films that can compete for the Academy Award for Best Short Film.

The Academy allows films that win first prize at these festivals to automatically advance to the category’s shortlist, provided they meet its criteria.

Thus, the two short films that will win the Golden Dionysus, i.e. the prize for the best film in the National Competition, but also the Grand Prix for the best film in the DISFF International Competition every September, will automatically secure the coveted “ticket” to participate in the process of the Oscars, which may lead them to the final five for the Academy Award for Best Short Film.

“This development vindicates the efforts that the Drama Festival has made over the years to distinguish itself as one of the leading short film festivals internationally, confirming at the same time the extroversion it has shown recently, but also its timeless influence in highlighting new film talents in Greece at their birth. The connection with the Academy Awards will give him the extra push he needs to fulfill his role in the best possible way”, the Festival points out in its announcement.
