“The bet for me is always an artistic one, that is, how does this dramatic poetic discourse get through to a modern audience, because if the poetry of the play gets through, the deeper cultivation of the audience is achieved”, noted the Greek actress Roula Pateraki, who plays the role of Hekabiin Euripides’ tragedy “Trojans”which presents this summer, volthe State Theater of Northern Greece (KTHBE), translated by Theodoros Stefanopoulos and directed by Christos Sougaris.

“The Troades is the Epidaural summer production of the KTHBE, and as a Thessalonian and a child of this theater, I am very happy to return with a show that I have been preparing for a long time, with Roula Pateraki in the role of Hekabi, who is a beloved collaborator, a native of Thessaloniki”, pointed out, speaking to APE-MBE, o director Christos Sougaris and emphasized that it is important that the KTHBE honors this great personality of the theater by staging this specific work with a great staff of collaborators and actors.

“We are particularly proud that the great lady of the Greek Theater, Roula Pateraki, honors us by taking on the demanding role of Hekabi. A classic work and always relevant since it deals with war and its consequences. In a world where almost every moment a war is taking place in some corner of it”emphasized the artistic director of KTHBE Asterios Peltekis.

“Something is waiting for us that is very interesting for us, but also for the public” underlined Mr. Sougaris.

He also noted that the music of the performance is signed by internationally acclaimed soloist and composer Stefanos Korkolis, who will play the piano on stage during the performances in Thessaloniki and the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus. “Stefanos is my favorite partner and I consider him a co-creator of my performances, with the wonderful music he composes and always performs on stage, as a soloist. I am particularly happy about this production,” he said characteristically.

“It is a great honor given to me by KTHBE, to write the music for such an emblematic work of Euripides” pointed out, for his part, Stefanos Korkolis and added: “What we will present expresses exactly what Euripides wrote, something so timeless, because the world continues to experience situations like the Trojans. The whole point is to be as minimalistic as possible, because a project like this doesn’t lend itself to special things, because it’s very powerful on its own. The pain is mute and everything moves in low tones and goes straight to the souls of the viewers.”

In this classic and ever-present work, which deals with war and its consequences, also starring Dimitris Piatas, Alexandros Bourdoumis, Maria Diakopanagiotou, Mariza Tsari, Cleo Danai Othonaiu, Loukia Vassiliou and Antonis Cafetzopoulos in the role of Poseidon, with an excellent 20-member cast.

“It is one of the most important works of the ancient drama and it is a great honor to participate in such an important production and I am very happy to return to the Greek Theater after twenty years” underlined the actor Alexandros Bourdoumis to APE-MBE and noted: “I am happy to work with such important artists, such as Christos Sougaris, with whom we are close collaborators and who I interpret Menelaus, such a beautiful and special character, the villain and the good of the work, who in the end is also a loser, he is not a winner. A very important tragedy, a timely work, as we are all Trojans, in a sense.”

The “journey” of the Trojans will start from Thessaloniki as the show’s premiere will be given at the Dasous Theater on July 6 and 7, and will be followed by a tour in Cyprus and throughout Greece, while on August 18 and 19, the “Troades” will be presented at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus and in September in theaters of Attica.
