Israeli soldiers search homes for weapons in Jenin refugee camp, 20 Palestinians arrested
The eight arrived the Palestinians who have been killed as part of the “broad counter-terrorist operation” carried out by the Israeli army inthe city and district of Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, according to a recent report by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
The Israeli military launched an extensive West Bank operation in the Jenin area in the early hours of Monday morning, carrying out airstrikes on multiple targets inside the Jenin refugee camp. Israeli ground forces then entered and exchanged fire with armed Palestinians in the camp during the operation.
Eight Palestinians were killed and at least 50 wounded, the 10 in critical condition, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. An Israeli soldier was slightly wounded by a grenade and taken to a hospital, IDF officials said.
Israeli soldiers are currently conducting weapons searches in homes in the Jenin refugee camp so far, the military said. An explosives-making workshop was discovered and parts of a rocket launcher were seized, among other weapons, according to Israel.
Earlier, Israeli forces raided what the military described as “unified command center” for Palestinian fighters in the refugee camp, detailing “an advanced observation and reconnaissance center” where fighters would gather to coordinate and prepare for attacks. It was also reported that the site served as a hideout for terror attack suspects in recent months.
Israeli security sources estimated that the operation could “achieve all its targets within 24 to 48 hours.” The Israeli military has also announced that it will increase the its air defense systems in southern Israel in anticipation of possible rocket attacks from Gaza.
