Remember live climes and fights between presenters

by

After a series of disagreements with colleague Patrícia Poeta, presenter Manoel Soares left Globo last Friday (30).

Since Patrícia took over “Encontro”, in 2022, rumors began that the duo did not get along. Several episodes that revealed the bad atmosphere between the presenters had repercussions on the networks.

In April, when Soares was commenting on news, the presenter walked in front of the camera talking about something else and interrupting him. Visibly upset, Manoel just stopped talking and looked uncomfortable.

The backstage of his departure, however, would go far beyond the strangeness with Patrícia Poeta, according to Lucas Pasin, a columnist for UOL: the departure would have been a dismissal, recommended by Globo’s compliance sector after an investigation against the presenter, targeted complaints of moral harassment, arrogant attitudes and other types of behavior deemed inappropriate.

The presenter used social networks to deny that he was the subject of an investigation and to say that his departure happened in common agreement, labeling the allegations as unfounded gossip.

“I am not the first nor the last man of my origins who will be targeted in this way. For centuries they have used the strategy of alleging abusive behavior to disqualify black men, I have seen this many times, and my life commitment is to fight the racism, inequality and injustice,” he said.

Check out, below, other live disagreements that marked Brazilian TV in recent years.

Keila Lima and Daniela Albuquerque

After seven years leading “Manhã Maior”, on Rede TV!, Keila Lima left the program in 2011 to be replaced by Regina Volpato.

In her farewell, Keila decided to vent and give some “pins”, leaving Daniela visibly embarrassed.

“Thank you, Dani, for these five years of living together. Having the opportunity to have taught you. When Monica assigned me, I said: ‘Guys, will I make it?'”, commented Keila.

She even went so far as to criticize the lack of structure at Rede TV!, which was quickly countered by her former colleague on the show.

Chris Flores and Ana Hickmann

Chris Flores’ replacement on Record’s “Hoje em Dia” program, presenter Ana Hickmann admitted in 2015 that she was never a friend of her predecessor.

“We even tried, but it never happened naturally,” he said. “Professionally, we never had any problems. But going out the door is something else”.

Rumors about friction involving the two presenters began in 2011, when Ana’s husband, who is also her manager, Alexandre Corrêa, even forbade the woman to work alongside Chris for considering her “fake”.

“Chris is a fake person, the issue goes beyond the lack of thanks, she talks badly about Ana behind her back. We have mutual friends who tell us everything she says”, he told UOL at the time.

In 2012, Record’s management tried to force peace between the presenters. The scene was supposed to be shown on the program “Hoje em Dia”. The only reason it didn’t happen was because Flores felt ill, had to be medicated, and didn’t participate in the program.

Coincidence or not, she felt sick after knowing that she would have to record the peace, minutes before going on air.

Galvão Bueno and Renato Mauricio Prado

In 2012, Renato Maurício Prado, then a commentator for the programs “Bem Amigos” and “Redação SporTV”, was involved in a controversy with Galvão Bueno during the London Olympics.

During the beginning of the program, when Galvão announced the guest, Prado asked the presenter to repeat a supposed comment that he would have made backstage regarding the 1984 Brazilian Olympic volleyball team –which included guest Marcus Vinícius Freire, former volleyball player and then superintendent of the Brazilian Olympic Committee.

According to Prado, Galvão would have said that the team only got the silver medal at the Los Angeles Games due to the boycott by the countries of the socialist bloc.

The comment made Galvão extremely angry.

“That’s one thing you can’t say. There are millions of people watching over there, and I never said that. You were extremely inelegant. Tell me, please, it’s a joke”, said the presenter.

The discussion lasted about two minutes until tempers calmed down. After the controversy, the commentator was removed from the attractions.

Milton Neves and Roberto Avallone

In 1997, journalists Roberto Avallone and Milton Neves staged a series of low-key attacks during what was supposed to be a “high-level” debate with even the right to be a mediator, at “Mesa Redonda” (CNT/Gazeta).

Briefly, the discussion was about homosexuality and corruption in the sports press.

First, the program showed a video in which Vasco manager Eurico Miranda “accused” a TV sports announcer of being homosexual.

Then came phrases like “Are you homosexual?” (from Neves to Avallone), “You are ignorant!” (idem), “Shut up, it’s my turn, you tapir!” (ditto), “You’re a liar!” (from Avallone to Neves) and “After the break, Milton Neves will say if there are any homosexuals at this table!” (idem).

The disaffected men made peace shortly afterwards.

“It was the biggest fight between two journalists in the history of Brazilian TV. And it didn’t last. [a inimizade]. We soon talked and understood each other. Avallone was difficult, I saw many ghosts where none existed. But he was a good person. A great fellow. Lately, we went to dinner several times”, recalled Neves in 2019, after Roberto’s death.
