The hospitalization of actor Stênio Garcia, on Saturday (1st), occurred due to a condition of septicemia, a generalized infection. The actor remains hospitalized in Rio de Janeiro, accompanied by his wife Mari Saade and under the supervision of the medical team.

The press office of the artist informed the F5 that he is being treated with an intravenous antibiotic and that his vital signs are normal. According to the note, this is the second time in the week that the actor goes to the hospital.

The first was on Wednesday (28), when he felt severe pain in his hips and legs, the result of an inflammation of the sciatic nerve discovered earlier this month. This weekend, with the persistence of pain, he returned to the doctor, who discovered the infection through tests. The singer Preta Gil, who is facing bowel cancer, went through the same problem.

According to geriatric doctor Roberta França, septicemia is an acute inflammatory process that occurs in the face of an infection.

“Septicemia can happen after a surgical procedure, intervention of any kind or even an open wound that inflames and the person did not take care of it properly”, he explains. “The body cannot handle it and tries to respond more aggressively, worsening the patient’s health condition. In these cases, hospitalization is mandatory.”

At age 91, the actor underwent a facial harmonization procedure. In an interview with F5he said he did the intervention to get new roles and return to the screen.

The doctor points out that the elderly already have a compromised immunity and that any intervention made in the body can be invasive. Despite the fact that she has both health problems, Roberta claims that they are unlikely to be associated.

“Inflammation of the sciatic nerve does not cause septicemia, unless it already had an infection, perhaps even asymptomatic. Then, yes, in the face of something secondary, the bacteria can proliferate more quickly, generating a septic condition. there must probably be something else related that led to the infection.”

Mariana Avallone, the doctor who performed the facial procedure on the actor, told the F5 who maintains contact with him and that the healing of the operation was good. And that, in recent weeks, the artist went to the hospital frequently to treat the pain he felt.

“I don’t know the reason for his hospitalization, but it has nothing to do with facial harmonization. He got hurt at the gym and the tests showed an inflation of the sciatic nerve.”

The geriatrician claims that the sciatic nerve is the largest in the human body and is located at the base of the spine, it extends to the buttocks and legs. The causes for inflammation can be related to physical activity or joint degeneration, which is common in the elderly.

“Physical exercise with more weight than you can bear or done improperly can cause pain in the region. Even abrupt movements or sudden changes in posture can inflame the nerve.”

The doctor explains that the treatment for septicemia is done with intravenous medication and monitored hospitalization to monitor the patient’s evolution. Inflammation in the spine is treated with antibiotics, physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
