Greece has been represented six times, from 1991 to 2015, receiving important awards and distinctions
In Piraeus 260 the fans of the Athens and Epidaurus Festival will have the opportunity to admire a sample of the work of the creators who represented Greece at the important international meeting on scenography and performance space in Prague.
The participation of 60 Greek creators and 10 university departments in the 15th Prague International Exhibition of Scenography and Theatrical Architecture (Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space- PQ) in June, concluded with great success. The mission’s booths gathered the intense interest of the public as well as positive comments from the experts.
Specifically, in the foyer of Hall E but also in the Square of the industrial area of ​​the Festival, two stands have been set up, one with the professional artists who represented Greece at the exhibition and the second with the student participation, which the spectators can visit daily, from 19:00 to 23:30.
The largest Greek participation
Greece this year had its largest participation in the PQ so farwhich took place with the support of the Ministry of Culture and was implemented by the Athens and Epidaurus Festival. The event takes on particular importance as the Prague Quadrennial is the largest international exhibition showcasing recent artistic creation in theatre, dance, opera, and performance art.
With the support of the Hellenic Post Office (ELTA), Greek scenography traveled from Prague all over the world, while visitors to the exhibition chose and took with them postcards depicting works by Greek scenographers from the Greek stand.
It is worth noting that the national participation of Cyprus “Spectators In A Ghost City”, which is inspired by the enclosed city of Famagusta, was distinguished with the grand prize of the organization, the Golden Triga.
The history of the exhibition
The 60 Greek creators and the 10 university departments met at the Prague Quadrennial in mid-June. PQ has been held continuously every four years since 1967 and is the world’s most important exhibition for the performing arts.
Greece has been represented six times (1991, 1995, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015), receiving important awards and distinctions. The request of the Greek representation at PQ23 was the expanded promotion of contemporary scenography – costume design in Greece, with the presentation of works from the last six years.
Creators of a wide range of performing arts from different artistic generations participated. The curatorial team of the Greek participation in the Prague exhibition consists of the creators Antonis Volanakis, Konstantinos Zamanis, Maria Konomi, Eva Nathena, Sofia Pantouvaki and Andreas Skourtis.
