Giovanna Antonelli signs with Warner after 23 years at Globo

After 23 years of service to Globo, Giovanna Antonelli signed a contract to act in the telenovela “Beleza Fatal”, by Warner Bros Discovery. Recordings begin in the coming months and the premiere is scheduled for 2024 on HBO Max.

This will be the actress’s first role outside the Rio de Janeiro broadcaster and the opportunity to play a character different from anything she had been doing so far weighed in her decision: young girls, betrayed women, sufferers or with a touch of humor.

His last Globo soap operas were “Travessia” (2022), “The More Life is Better!” (2021), “Segundo Sol” (2018), “Rising Sun” (2016), “A Regra do Jogo” (2015), “Em Família” (2014) and “Salve Jorge” (2012). Her most outstanding role in the last decade was the delegate Helô, who aired on Travessia ten years after her success in Salve Jorge.

In “Beleza Fatal”, Antonelli will be the matriarch of the Paixão family, who will adopt Sofia, the young lady from the story starring Camila Queiroz—currently on air in “Amor Perfeito”, a soap opera at 6 pm on Globo. Antonelli’s character loses her young daughter because of a medical error committed by the clinic run by Lola (Camila Pitanga), the story’s villain.

Sofia, on the other hand, will see her mother arrested and die, victims of injustice and evil committed by Lola (Pitanga). After joining the Paixão family, Sofia decides to take revenge. As an adult, the protagonist outlines her plan for revenge with the help of her mother from the heart, played by Antonelli. A childhood love enters the story and makes her review her plans to do justice at any cost.

Fatal Beauty was written by Raphael Montes, author of the Netflix series Bom Dia Verônica, with text supervision by Silvio de Abreu. The plot will be directed by Maria de Médicis, former director of Globo for 29 years. The plot delayed its production because of the merger between Warner and Discovery. In the cast, names like Herson Capri, Caio Blat, Marcelo Serrado and Murilo Rosa are confirmed.
