Journalist Susana Naspolini and singer Gal Costa, who died in October and November 2022, respectively, will be honored by the city of Rio de Janeiro. Their names will be assigned to public spaces in the city.
The decree was sanctioned by the mayor, Eduardo Paes, and has already been published in the Official Gazette. The places and/or streets that should receive these names have not yet been defined.
Journalist Susana Naspolini, from TV Globo, died on October 25 last year, aged 49, after a long battle with cancer. She had been hospitalized for more than a week in a hospital in São Paulo, and her death was confirmed on social media by Julia, 16, her only daughter with sports journalist MaurÃcio Torres – who died in 2014.
“It is with an aching heart that I come to tell you that mom is no longer with us. She fought a lot, our warrior! I really appreciate the prayers, but unfortunately it didn’t work”, Julia wrote in a post saying goodbye to her mother.
Never losing faith, Susana fought and won some battles against cancer over the last few years. According to the journalist’s daughter, the most recent had been a tumor in the pelvis that spread to other organs, mainly compromising the liver.
Gal Costa died on the morning of November 9, 2022, aged 77. Weeks before, her team informed that the singer would need to cancel some shows that month to recover from the removal of a nodule in the right nasal fossa.
