Brazilian actors and playwrights mourned the death of Zé Celso, Brazilian director, this Thursday (6). He had been hospitalized since Tuesday (3) due to a fire in his apartment, in the Paraíso region, a neighborhood in the south of São Paulo.
One of the greatest playwrights in the country, he was the founder of Teatro Oficina, which would become a symbol of Brazilian theater. Actress Letícia Colin posted a photo of the filmmaker and said that heaven is celebrating because the boring ones are the ones who stayed.
“Without Zé Celso there would be no theater. Zé: the greatest Dionísio. Thank you infinitely. May we honor. Forever.” Another global that regretted was José de Abreu. Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho said that, despite not being in the theater, he is grateful for the playwright’s impact on Brazilian culture.
“My films were all impacted in some way by Zé Celso, with the energy of actresses and actors, art and friendly script tips, a sense of direction and vision about Brazil”, he wrote.
Actor Armando Babaioff said that the death is an immense loss for the country. “All applause for you is few. Long live Zé Celso!”
“Father from heaven, receive this master on your stage. Put him next to Abdias do Nascimento, they will make a noise, but it will be beautiful”, wrote Manoel Soares.
