Hippolytus, by Euripides at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus
The National Theater opens this year’s Epidaurus Festival with Euripides’ “Hippolytus” which will be presented, directed by Katerina Evagelatos with a great group of collaborators and a dynamic 24-member troupe of actors and musicians. The play, which informally inaugurated the Epidaurion institution in 1954, rises here in a bold performance that highlights the wild universe of Euripides’ work, the catalytic power of passion in people’s lives, the bareness of existence, the destructive consequences of intransigence but and transcending natural laws and human limits. Starring (alphabetically): Kora Karvounis, Amalia Ninou, Dimitris Papanikolaou, Maria Skoulas, Elena Topalidou, Yiannis Tsortekis, Orestis Chalkias.

The Glass World, directed by Giorgos Nanouris at the Papagou Garden Theater
“Glass World” by Tennessee Williams, directed by Giorgos Nanouris, with Katia Dandoulakis in the iconic role of Amanda and Ioanna Pappas, Konstantinos Bibi, Reno Rota, returns with a tour to Greece this summer as well. The Glass World – perhaps the most representative work of the author who marked post-war America with his drama – was written in 1944. It is a work of poetic breath and deep human sensitivity, where the world of harsh reality is intertwined with the fragile beauty of imagination and dream.
